Our Attorneys

Hale Blau & Saad was founded by criminal defense attorney Robert H. Hale Jr., in 1999. Mr. Hale began his legal career in 1994 at the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of North Carolina. He was the first Research and Writing Specialist hired by that office and was later promoted to Assistant Federal Public Defender. While he served in that prestigious position for over two years, he handled a large volume of both trial-level and appellate cases, and successfully defended numerous indigent defendants accused of federal crimes. To this day, a substantial portion of his practice involves defending individuals facing federal charges. He practices primarily in the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina, and also has substantial experience representing individuals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is also experienced at defending clients charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses in North Carolina district and superior courts.

Attorney Daniel M. Blau is a former judicial law clerk for The Honorable Linda M. McGee, Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He has successfully argued cases before appellate courts at both the state and federal levels, and has won reversals of trial court decisions in felony cases in both state and federal courts. Mr. Blau has also represented over one thousand clients facing traffic, misdemeanor, or felony charges in North Carolina state courts. In addition to his in-court work, Mr. Blau has taught courses in legal ethics to fellow defense attorneys. He is the former vice-president of the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, as is a former Chair of the Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He was executive editor of the First Amendment Law Review at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where he graduated with honors.

Attorney Steven Saad has spent the bulk of his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Wake County. He has tried over 25 jury trials with charges ranging from simple assault to first-degree murder. Mr. Saad has also tried over 700 bench trials, 500 of which were DWI cases. In his time as a district attorney, he held positions as the supervisor of all district court prosecutors, a prosecutor in the specialized driving while impaired trial courtroom, a superior court prosecutor assigned exclusively to jury trials, and a member of the felony drug unit. He spent over a year as a member of and as the legal adviser for the Wake County DWI Task Force.
