Attorney Dan Blau was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was raised in Chapel Hill. He received his undergraduate degree in Public Policy Studies from Duke University in 2003, with a minor in political science and a certificate in health policy.

Mr. Blau attended law school at the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill, where he received the Judge Naomi Morris Memorial Scholarship and the Nancy K. Rhoden scholarship. Mr. Blau also served as Executive Editor of the First Amendment Law Review. During the summer months, Mr. Blau served as a legislative clerk with the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, and also completed an internship at the University of North Carolina School of Government. Mr. Blau graduated with honors in May 2007 and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in September 2007.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Blau served as law clerk to the Honorable Linda M. McGee on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. As a law clerk, Mr. Blau consulted on dozens of civil and criminal appeals ranging from traffic offenses to first-degree murder. Mr. Blau entered private practice at Hale, Blau & Saad at the conclusion of his clerkship in August 2008. Mr. Blau is admitted to practice in all North Carolina state courts, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Blau is a former Chair of the Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, and has also served as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina. Mr. Blau has also taught numerous seminars on legal ethics at continuing-education programs for fellow attorneys.
